The Academy of Sport East London SCORE WITH FOOTBALL FOUNDATION GRANT

The Academy of Sport East London is celebrating today following £132,204 being awarded by the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity.

The cash bonanza will allow The Academy of Sport East London to offer sporting, social & educational activities all year round for young people of all ages from the Hackney area, it will also offer volunteering & coaching opportunities for those who attend..

The Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the Premier League, The Football Association, Sport England and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £45m budget going straight into the heart of football.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said: “We warmly congratulate the organisation for their hard work and dedication in securing this award.”

“Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility amongst young people. I am delighted that Football Foundation investment is opening up access to sport in Hackney and encourage other organisations in the region to apply to us.”

Tracey Mills from The Academy of Sport East London, said: “The money we have received from The Football Foundation will enable us to provide much needed activities, sporting and other for the young people in this area, which will have a positive impact on them and the local community. After school and holiday activities are a necessary alternative needed for young people in this area to utilise their spare time rather than entering into youth & gang crime as well as anti social behaviour.”
