Football For All Project

Introduction

he Academy of Sport East London is a Community Organisation set up in 2004. We are based at Hackney Wick Community Association in the heart of Hackney. All courses we run are in the East London Area.

There are high levels of youth crime in this area, this included gang, gun & knife crime as well as anti social behaviour & criminal damage. This is mainly due to a lack of after school & weekend activities & facilities that offer any projects sporting or educational.

For these reasons we be running a football coaching & educational & social inclusion project, through term time and school holidays for the next three years.

Term Time

There will be football & athletics coaching sessions weekly for all age groups with opportunities for all to attend a FA Accredited Course, such as Junior Football Organisers & Level 1 Football Coaching courses, all are FA accredited.

There will also be Personal Development sessions in Social Subjects for all age groups. The Safer Neighbourhood Police team will deliver modules on various topics e.g. – Youth & Gun Crime, Anti Social Behaviour, Bullying & Self Esteem, Drink & Drug Awareness, the modules covered will depend on the age group.

There will also be modules in Food & Nutrition covering healthy eating delivered by a BTEC qualified cook plus Food Hygiene Certificate.

Inspire an organisation based in Dalston will deliver a programme especially devised for this course

This course costs 50p per session.

School Holidays

We will be running sessions on Hackney marshes through all school holidays except Christmas. These run from 10am – 3pm depending on age groups.

The sessions cover all aspects of football, such as Warm Up, warm Downs, Drills, Positions etc. we also run FUTSAL (Brazilian Football) sessions.

Programme Summary for Academy of Sport

Below is a summary of the programmes that are intended for the various age groups, linking in with the agreed learning outcomes for the students

9-10 years: Enterprise and Football
This programme will require groups of students to organise a mini football tournament. Facilitators will work alongside them to support them in developing skills for enterprise and employability such as teamwork, communication skills, decision making and financial capability. Groups will have to advertise the event, create a company logo, organise venue and travel arrangements as well as put together a timetable of activities

11-12 years: Enterprise and Football
This, as with the programme above, will allow groups of young people to develop their skills for enterprise by competing in groups to meet the demands of a specific project to extend the capacity of a football stadium. Facts presented to the teams will replicate those in a real life scenario. Groups will be able to use their local heroes, Arsenal FC for inspiration.

13-15 years: Leadership, communication, conflict management: increasing skills and confidence to become a referee
To become a referee, you need strong leadership skills, the ability to think on your feet, manage conflicts, make decisions and stick by them. This series of activities will identify the skills associated with refereeing and through taster activities including role plays and experiential activities, participants will develop a wealth of skills that they will put to the test at the end of the course when the are given their own match to referee

16+ years: Employability skills for work and education
This course helps young people to familiarise themselves with the application process and how to effectively sell their skills and qualities both on paper and in person. The four strands of this course are to include:
bullet identifying the skills and qualities that are looked for by employers
bullet increasing motivation and enthusiasm for learning and the world of work
bullet increasing their awareness of the world of work and the opportunities that it offers
bullet developing a competitive edge in applying for jobs
